While at Wilson Senior High, I taught a professional writing course of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. For the final assessment, students were asked to write a short story that included a cohesive plot, dialogue, characters, and setting. Students were given a week to write, a day for peer review and editing, a day for revisions, and then turned in the final project for a grade. Included here a two samples of student short stories.
"Fighting the Unknown" is a Vietnam era short story.
